I want to work with the leadership in District 88, not just the county commissioners, city councils and mayors but the Chambers, the Economic Development teams and, of course, the citizens help Elmore and Autauga Counties reach their full potential. My vision and goal are to work hard to make District 88 one of the strongest economic powerhouses in the State of Alabama.

Fight for Law Enforcement and our Military.

Fight for Education.

My grandaddy. He worked hard every day. He treated his wife with love and respect. He served in the church. And he never met a stranger.

Transparency. I love my life as an open book, as State House Representative, I’d do the same.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Honesty & Transparency.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Tyler May (L)

To be the voice of the people and to make sure that voice is caring to every aspect and place so that it is heard by everyone

What legacy would you like to leave?

I just want to make Alabama a place people can be proud of.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Bill Clinton Scandal. About 8.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Tyler May (L)

Hotel Clerk. About 4 months

What is your favorite book? Why?

Tyler May (L)

The life of Billy Graham . It’s the Life of a hero of mine and possibly every person of Christian faith.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Tyler May (L)

Richard Castle. He gets to be involved in two amazing fields. He’s externally passionate about the things he loves, but the greatest thing about him that probably gets lost is he cares immensely for his daughter and mother. As a dad to two daughters and a son to an amazing mom, that hits home the most.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

Tyler May (L)

They should be able to work together for the greater good of the state. Personal agendas should never be in play.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

Tyler May (L)

Raising our Education numbers. Being almost last in the US is not acceptable, especially with the number being so much lower than the top numbers.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of a unicameral state legislature, in your opinion?

Tyler May (L)

It doesn’t allow for all voices to be heard.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

Tyler May (L)

Not necessarily. We’ve been shown through out the years that experience doesn’t equal competence.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Tyler May (L)

Yes, but never to the point where personal favors within the job are in play.

What process do you favor for redistricting?

Tyler May (L)

Each district should be made up of approximately the same number of people. We can not keep shutting certain people out of a district just because it hurts the incumbents chances of re-election.

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Tyler May (L)

I’d be happy to work wherever assigned.

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Tyler May (L)

Rand Paul, before moving too far to the right.

Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?

Tyler May (L)

I’d definitely think about it.

Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

Tyler May (L)

Not a particular one but as a whole, people are tired as politics as usual. They want true representation without all the back room deals and political agendas.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Tyler May (L)

I believe that you have to be willing to work with those in office regardless of what letter is beside their name. The media may put a L beside mine but I prefer an A for American.
