The Alabama Property Tax Exemptions Amendment was a proposed constitutional amendment that was not placed on a 2016 election ballot by the Alabama Legislature.

The measure would have repealed and readopted Article X of the Alabama Constitution to make technical amendments such as gender neutral references. The measure would have also authorized the legislature to provide tax exemptions for homesteads, personal property and other property and delete provisions relating to homesteads, laborer and mechanic liens and property rights of women.[1]

According to Article 18 of the Alabama Constitution, both houses of the Alabama State Legislature are required to pass the bill by a three-fifths or 60 percent vote, in order to send it to the statewide election ballot. In 2016, the Legislature was in session from February 2 through the middle of May. The legislature did not act on the bill.
