Alabama is holding an election for two of three seats on the Alabama Public Service Commission on November 3, 2026. The primary is May 19, 2026, and a primary runoff is June 16, 2026. The filing deadline is January 23, 2026.

The third seat was up for election in 2024. Fourteen-year incumbent and 12-year commission president Twinkle Cavanaugh (R) won the race before resigning in 2025 to accept a federal appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.[1] Gov. Kay Ivey (R) appointed state Rep. Cynthia Almond (R) to fill the vacancy on June 6, 2025.[2]

Ten states choose commissioners by partisan election. Seven are holding elections in 2026. Heading into the 2026 elections, Republicans control all 10 commissions that use partisan elections.

Of the seven commissions holding elections in 2026, Republicans control 26 seats to Democrats’ two.
