The Alabama Veto Overturn Amendment did not make the November 2012 ballot in the state of Alabama as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have changed the state legislature's process relating to overturning a governor's veto. The bill proposed changing the requirement to override a veto from a simple majority to a 2/3rds supermajority. According to reports, that figured out to 70 votes in the 105-member House and 24 votes in the 35-member Senate.[1]
Path to the ballot
Article XVIII of the Alabama Constitution says that it takes a three-fifths (60%) vote of the Alabama State Legislature to qualify an amendment for the ballot.
