Alabama chief justice asks governor to delay judicial appointments
April 15, 2010
Alabama: Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb of the Alabama Supreme Court has sent a letter to Governor Bob Riley asking him to delay in his appointment of judge to fill two vacant state circuit court positions. The seats belong to Judge C. Lawson Little and Judge S. Edward Jackson, both of the Alabama 20th Judicial Circuit Court, and Cobb says that by leaving them vacant the state could save several hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cobb further had this to say, "If one of the judgeships is left open, I pledge to assign judges from surrounding districts and circuits to hold court in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit on a regular basis to ensure that the Houston and Henry County Circuit Court dockets are handled expeditiously and fairly."[1]
