In total, 69 judicial candidates ran in Alabama's partisan judicial elections in 2014. Of these candidates, 41 were incumbents running for re-election. That same number of candidates, though not all incumbents, ran unopposed. In the general election on November 4, 2014, only seven judicial races were contested, with six incumbent judges facing challenges to their bids for re-election. One incumbent Alabama Supreme Court justice was re-elected without opposition.

Interesting races
- In the 2014 election cycle, one of the six incumbent judges who faced opposition—Judge Sheri Carver—was defeated in the general election. Her challenger, Wes Mobley, won a seat on the Cherokee County District Court with 57% of the vote.
- The closest race was between incumbent Judge J. William Cole and Martin Weinberg for a seat on the 10th Circuit Court. Cole was re-elected to the bench with 50.3% of the vote.
- In contrast, candidates in two races saw large margins of victory. In the race for a seat on the Baldwin County District Court, incumbent Michelle M. Thomason defeated Ginger Poynter and was re-elected with 73% of the vote. Walker County District Court Judge Henry Allred defeated his opponent, Albert Day Legg, III, and was re-elected with 78.2% of the vote.
