Alabama speaker selected chairman of Southern Legislative Conference

MONTGOMERY, Alabama: Mike Hubbard (R), the Alabama State House Speaker, was selected as chairman of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC).[1]
Hubbard succeeds West Virginia House of Delegates speaker Rick Thompson (D). Hubbard will host next year's SLC meeting in Mobile, Alabama.[1]
The SLC was founded in 1947 and operates under the Council of Governments. The following states are members of the SLC: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.[1]
Last month, Hubbard had a building named after him at Auburn University.[2] He also announced he would not run for Governor of Alabama in 2014.[3]
Hubbard first assumed office in 1998.
