Alan Bennett a 31-year veteran of the US Army & Missouri Army National Guard, Bennett has served multiple combat and non combat tours across the United States and world Afghanistan and earned several honors including the Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. Bennett served his first enlisted tour as a Military Policeman, and Subsequent tours as Field Artillery Officer in the 129th Field Artillery in Maryville and Albany, and later as a Logistics Officer. In addition to military service, he was also a Full time Substitute teacher, and worked as a Social Security Technician. Today, Bennett serves as a Construction Technician with the Missouri Department of Transportation where he inspects construction of roads and bridges in the district.
  • I am committed to a life of service. I answered that call my entire adult life, and I have more years to serve the people of the state of Missouri.
  • Government is not the answers to all our problems. Our brilliant founders recognized a God given right and ability in each of us to live up to our full potential, and complaining about bad decisions won’t fix them; electing better leaders will.
  • Our founders set up a system that allowed for smaller government, closer to the people that would allow the average citizen to have voice in their government. That is what I am committed to.
Pro Life, 2nd Amendment, Pro Law Enforcement and Veterans Issues.
I look up to Harry Truman whose motto was "the buck stops here". I admire leaders that are willing to make the hard decision and accept the consequences of those decisions.
I am dedicated to Public Service. I have demonstrated this over the course of my adult life. I am a quick learner, inLeavin the Army, we were often put into areas that we had to learn about. That gave us broad experiences similar to legislators.
The core responsibility is to talk to people, understand their concerns and respect their point of view even when it is different than mine. Then the public servant is charged with representing the people of the district based on his/her conversations.
On March 30, 1981, United States President Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded by John Hinckley Jr. in Washington, D.C. I was 12.
My first job in high school was working as a stockboy at T.G.&Y, a regional retail store.
During my Army Career, I was away from home for months or years at a time. It is hard to leave for a long time and come back and integrate yourself back into your family's life.
As with the Federal model, the Legislative and Executive branches are to serve as a check and balance against each other. Our government is designed to work slowly in order to prevent wild swings in policy.
Economic Development. We have a great state with amazing resources, cities and outdoor areas. With the ability of workers to work anywhere, we need to draw them to Missouri.
A few advantages, it is democratic, it is cleaner that bicameral, probably more cost effective and there is no need for two bodies to compete for superiority.
The main disadvantage is that it does not account for equal representation between the higher populated and less populated areas.
It is essential to build relationships. One legislator cannot get it done alone.
I prefer the hybird method where the legislature shares redistricting authority with a commission.
I am interest first in Veteran's Issues, as a Veteran I would like to serve on that committee.

I am interested in the Transportation committee and the Right of way Management

I have experience in Disaster Response, so the Committee on Disaster Preparedness would be interesting.
Compromise is essential to our system of governance. When one party or voice in the room makes all the decisions without compromise, it is usually the wrong decision.
