Alan L. Brodbeck was a judge of the 8th County Court Judicial District in Nebraska. He joined the bench in 1984 and retired on March 31, 2017.[1]

Brodbeck earned a B.A. from Dana College and a J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law.[2]

Prior to joining the bench, Brodbeck was the county attorney for Antelope County. His experience also includes work as an attorney in private practice and service as the secretary of the Nebraska Judicial Resources Commission, the editor of the Nebraska County Judges Association newsletter, and the president of the Nebraska County Attorney's Association and the Nebraska County Judges Association.[2]

Brodbeck was retained in the general election on November 6, winning 65.59 percent of the vote.[3][4]

2012 judicial performance evaluation

Every two years, the Nebraska State Bar Association compiles responses from lawyers to evaluate judges in the state. Subjects are rated in seven categories, then a determination is made for whether the judge should be retained. The seven categories considered are: legal analysis; impartiality; attentiveness; opinions; judicial temperament and demeanor; appropriate communication; and timeliness.

Judicial Qualifications Commission

Judge Brodbeck is a judge member of the Nebraska Judicial Qualifications Commission, which is charged with selecting Supreme Court Justices and filling other judicial vacancies in Nebraska. He was appointed to serve on the Commission by Republican Governor Dave Heineman in 2005.[2]
