I was first elected to the Board in 2012, and appointed again in 2023 in recognition of my prior representation of the community.

I am running for re-election to continue advancing the educational excellence expected by our community. Our public schools deliver the best education, achieved by pursuing the highest standards of excellence and relentless fiscal discipline. Our nationally recognized schools form the core of our community and support strong property values.

I started my career in the U.S. Air Force developing educational software and teaching instructors on using new technology. I earned degrees in Engineering (UCLA), Business (Embry-Riddle) and Law (Loyola). I've applied this education to leadership roles in the fields of healthcare, defense, communications and software. And these leadership skills I developed in business and government service enable me to promote best practices at DMUSD.

As your voice on the Board, I've leveraged my extensive business management, corporate governance & problem-solving skills to achieve collaborative solutions with Board members, parents, District staff, and community partners. My focus has been on responsible budgeting and strategic resource allocation, which allows us to ensure low class sizes, the best teachers, and high standards for every child.

As a parent of DMUSD graduates, I understand how our programs impact the educational journey of students through high school and beyond.
  • Parent Involvement: I actively meet with parents at all of our schools, and partner with parents to approach the District staff with collaborative solutions.
  • Oversight & Accountability: I apply my business governance skills to ensure adherence to Board policies and strategic plan objectives. I meet routinely with the Superintendent to ensure accountability of the leadership team and the 9 school site principals.
  • Special Programs: My children benefited greatly from the STEAM+ and Special Education programs at DMUSD. I will continue to assist the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF) in raising additional STEAM+ funds from community partners. I will also continue supporting special education families in what I know personally can be a challenging journey.
I have a special expertise and focus on advocating with California agencies and legislative officials to fund priority programs in public education.
I am curious and believe that we should be learning and teaching every day of our lives. I seek first to understand other people's perspectives before suggesting mine. I believe in being a collaborative problem solver, and have sought out opportunities to learn how to solve problems in engineering, business, law, education and in personal relationships.
My primary responsibilities are to (1) hire and manage the Superintendent to ensure proper leadership and functioning of the District, (2) review and approve responsible budgets that achieve the strategic priorities of the District, and (3) develop and approve policies to ensure the proper functioning of the District in alignment with community priorities.
