Louisiana: Judge Terry Q. Alarcon has announced that he will retire from the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court (41st District) on January 3, 2012. The 62-year-old judge has served on the District Court since 1996 and was named Chief Judge in 2010. Since he was re-elected in 2008, his current six-year term would have lasted through 2014. However, Alarcon explained, "The opportunities I have now aren't going to be there by the end of the term...I'm fine. I'm happy. I'm grateful to the citizens of New Orleans for giving me an opportunity to serve." After retiring, he plans to serve as general counsel for his friend's auto dealership group and work on his family's investments.
The advance notice will allow enough time for an election to fill his position, unless the Governor decides to make an appointment instead.[1]
