Alaska pipeline question making a comeback

JUNEAU, Alaska: After a failed attempt at the 2010 ballot, the Alaska gas pipeline advisory question seemed to fade away. Now, an Alaska lawmaker is trying to place the measure on the 2012 ballot. The measure would ask Alaska voters whether or not to use state money to fund a gas pipeline, using $6 billion from general obligation bonds.[1]
In 2010, the proposal was introduced by Representative Mike Chenault and was co-sponsored by Representative Jay Ramras. That measure was referred to the Finance Committee on February 5, 2010, but it failed to be placed in front of voters. The 2012 version is being introduced by State Senator Lesil McGuire.
If sent to the ballot and approved, the legislature would not be bound to implement the measure. Since the measure is an advisory question, it would only serve as a tool for legislators to push for the gas pipeline.[2][3]
