Alaska: As of a ruling in late October 2011 Tlingit and Haida tribal courts in Southeast Alaska will be allowed to preside over family law issues affecting its citizens.[1]

"This is a very important court ruling for our tribe's children. We will make every effort to work with the state of Alaska in carrying out our responsibilities to our Native families," -Edward Thomas, president of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.[1]

The Alaskan judge who ruled over the case was Philip M. Pallenberg of the Alaska First District superior court in the Juneau Borough.[1]
