Alberto Hernandez is a student at Florida Atlantic University’s Honors College and entrepreneur. He has lived in Florida for the past 18 years. Hernandez' career experience includes owning a video production company and working with various nonprofits and federal agencies, including the VA, State Department, and NOAA. During his time working with the team at NOAA Hernandez saw the devastating impact of the marine heatwave, and decided to run for office.
  • Protect Florida’s Environment and Stop Over-Development - Florida’s environment is not only a national treasure, it is a key driver of our economic prosperity, agricultural industry, and tourism in Florida. I understand climate change is real, and support science-backed legislation that protects our environment. I intend on working to repeal HB 781 which allows governmental entities to proceed with an unsolicited proposal for a public-private partnership without engaging in a public bidding process, as previously required.
  • Address the Affordable Housing Crisis and Lower the Cost of Homeowner’s Insurance - I’m committed to reforming our insurance system and ensuring that more affordable housing is available for Floridians. I won’t take money from the insurance industry, and I’ll fight for lower rates. I will introduce legislation to allow homeowners to choose contractors, negotiate claims with insurance adjustors, and restore the transferability of Assignment of Benefits for settled claims. Reinstate One-Way Attorney Fees with limits on escalator fees. Restrict businesses to a set number of subsidiary insurance companies and ensure "preferred vendors" lists include independent restoration and repair contractors.
  • The current Florida ban on abortion regulations is a human rights violation. I will work to protect women’s bodily autonomy and access to reproductive healthcare - I stand firmly in support of protecting women’s access to contraception, IVF, and reproductive healthcare including abortion. These interventions are crucial for Floridians, especially women who may lose their lives to pregnancy. The decision to undergo pregnancy belongs to women, not politicians.
I’m passionate about protecting Florida’s environment, expanding access to quality education, and defending human rights.
I am inspired by leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Lincoln’s commitment to American unity and his leadership through deeply divided times motivate me to focus on bridging differences and fostering national collaboration. FDR's bold leadership during a time of crisis, his empathy for the struggles of the ordinary man, and his ability to implement transformative reforms are qualities I strive to embody. Both leaders demonstrated resilience, a strong sense of duty, and the courage to make difficult decisions for the greater good— values I deeply admire and aim to bring to my work in public service.
The most essential qualities an elected official can possess are a strong moral compass and a deep sense of service for their community. These values guide every decision I will make and ensure that I will always work in the best interests of the people I represent.
As a political candidate, I believe that integrity, empathy, and a focus on problem-solving are key qualities for success in office. I prioritize transparency and open communication because honesty is the foundation of public trust. I am committed to inclusivity, aiming to represent and serve all Floridians, regardless of background, by understanding and addressing their diverse needs. Additionally, I focus on finding solutions pragmatically, guided by feedback from experts, data, and the voices of the people, to bring about meaningful and achievable progress for our state.
This office is responsible for acting in the best interests of Floridians, that includes improving the standard of living for every resident, safeguarding our beautiful environment, and standing up for the rights of all Floridians. If elected to this office, I will work to build a Florida that thrives economically, protects its natural resources, and ensures that everyone’s rights are upheld and respected.
My very first job was as a carpenter when I was 14. I worked as a carpenter for three years all throughout my time in high school.
One of my greatest challenges has been finding a balance between standing firm on my principles and understanding the perspectives of those who disagree. In today's polarized world, it can be difficult to remain open to compromise while staying true to core values. However, my experiences have taught me the importance of active listening, meaningful dialogue, and seeking common ground, even when it is difficult to do so. I firmly believe that through cooperation and mutual respect, we can achieve real progress for the people of Florida.
I strongly believe in the importance of building relationships with fellow legislators. I believe that if I do an ounce of good in my life, it won’t be without a lot of help. Achieving meaningful change requires collaboration. I am committed to working with any legislator who acts in good faith and shares the goal of serving the best interests of Floridians. Together we can create solutions that benefit our state and its people.
