Alberto Torres Jr.
Alberto Torres Jr. was a member of the Webb County Appraisal District in Texas. He assumed office on January 11, 2024. He left office on December 31, 2024.
Torres ran for re-election to the Laredo City Council to represent District 4 in Texas. He won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Although city council elections in Laredo are officially nonpartisan, Torres is known to be affiliated with the Democratic Party.[1]
Biography
Torres received an associate degree from Laredo Community College, and, at the time of his 2016 campaign, was studying political science and government at Texas A&M International University.[2]
As of his run for city council in 2016, Torres was a public information officer for Webb County. His professional experience also included working as a juvenile gang unit director for the Webb County sheriff.[2]
Torres was appointed chair of the Webb County Democratic Party in 2015. At the time of his appointment, he was the youngest chair in the county party's history. He also served as a Webb County election commissioner and on the boards of Angel of Hope, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo, and the Webb County Head Start Policy Council.[1][3]

2016
The city of Laredo, Texas, held elections for city council on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 22, 2016. Four of the seven city council seats were up for election. The District 4 race advanced to a runoff election on December 17, 2016. Alberto Torres Jr. defeated Allen Tijerina in the Laredo City Council District 4 runoff election.[4]
