Hi there. I'm Alex and I am excited about the opportunity to earn your vote to serve on the Board of Commissioners. I was raised in northwest Georgia and have recently returned to settle with my young family in Catoosa County. I have been married to my beautiful wife for over 7 years and have two small children and a dog. I work as a software engineer where I lead a small team that works with our men and women in the armed forces to try to improve their lives and the lives of their families. I have also previously worked as the Director of Information Technology for a K-12 school system. I am a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church and my faith is an important part of my life.

I'm running for office because I believe in participation in the democratic process and I want voters in our county to have choices when they go to vote in November. When there are multiple candidates on the ballot, it encourages engagement and fosters informed decision-making among voters. I want to provide our community with a diverse range of options, ensuring that every voice is heard and represented.

As a candidate, I am committed to being a true representative of the people. I have no ties to those in power. I’m just a regular guy who wants to see our community thrive. My goal is to listen to the concerns of our residents and lead with empathy, always putting the needs of our community first.
  • Integrity, decency, and accountability are a must in any government and that’s something I want to strive for as commissioner. I want the public to trust that I am listening to their concerns and doing my job in the best interest of the general public. I also want to encourage respectful collaboration. While we may not always see eye-to-eye, I am committed to working with individuals from all backgrounds and ideologies to find common ground and solutions that work the best for the most people. By fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding, we can move our county forward together.
  • I believe in good government, and government that works for the people. A government that allows for freedoms and individual rights. A government that steps in to stand up for the marginalized when nobody else does. The American Dream should be available for all, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or gender.
  • I want to make sure we have a budget that adequately meets the needs of our citizens while being good stewards of the people’s money. I’ll give one example - our roads in the county. Right now, I don’t think we have the funds to adequately maintain our roadways before they become in disrepair. We must think long-term to create a better society for the next generations. I think listening to our constituents and making sure we use our limited funds on the most important things is vital.
I am passionate about the way we build our communities. In the current world we live in, we have become isolated and divided from each other. Many don't know their neighbors and kids aren't out playing in the neighborhood. I believe one big reason for this is due to the way we've physically built our infrastructure.

I would work to promote other modes of transportation such as biking or walking by making these modes safe and convenient. I would also like to see some zoning restrictions removed so that we can encourage mixed use development so that people don't have to drive as far to access services they need and so we can create local communities centered around local shops and restaurants.
I really look up to the leaders of social movements in general, past and present. It takes a lot of guts and courage to stage a protest or to fight for what you believe is right. Even if I don't agree with someone's view, I can respect them putting all their energy into something they really believe in.
I believe one of my best qualities that would help me be successful is having the heart of a servant leader. I will listen to people's concerns and lead with empathy, acknowledging how the decisions that I make will affect people. I know that I will never make everyone happy, but I commit to taking into account all the facts and all sides before making complex decisions and then in turn provide transparency to the public about how those decisions are made.
The core responsibility of an elected official is to govern by the will of the people. I also believe that standing up for the rights and protection of minority groups is also an important responsibility.
I was 7 years old when the September 11 attacks happened. I remember being in first grade at school that morning when someone came in to tell our teacher what had happened. I didn't fully understand it all at the time. I really saw how our country came together in the years after that. It wasn't Democrat vs Republican - it was just American.
It is vital that citizens have the tools and resources to hold our government accountable. There are many things the county can and is already doing to be transparent, including posting information online such as budgets, meeting agendas and detailed minutes. There also should be a cheap and fast processes for handling Freedom of Information Act requests so that citizens and journalists can provide accountability.

When it comes to financial transparency, it's especially important at the local level to be fair with contracts and business transactions to ensure that the county is not favoring friends or relatives. Commissioners should recuse themselves from any votes that would award contracts to close friends or relatives. The bidding processes for contracts should be very open and transparent as well.
