38-year-old Iranian Irvine native and LGBTQ+ civic leader Alex Mohajer is a candidate for California State Senate in the 37th Senate District. Since 2021. Mohajer has served as president of the California Stonewall Democrats. If elected, he'll be potentially the only Iranian in the CA state legislature and the first openly gay Iranian man elected anywhere in the world.
  • Calfornia can be a global leader on climate change, and healthcare/mental health care access, if we have the courage to elect a new generation of diverse, intersectional perspectives into elected office who do not take campaign contributions from the same lobbies that hold us back from making meaningful progress. Alex has accepted a pledge to take no campaign contributions from corporate PACs, the fossil fuels industry, or corporate healthcare lobbies (the "Patients over Profits" pledge).
  • Economic dignity for working class families. As the son of Iranian working class immigrants, Alex Mohajer understands the struggle of working class and immigrant families who sacrifice so that their children can have access to good public schools.
  • Representation and intersectionality matters. Orange County is home to the largest diaspora of Iranians outside of Iran, and at a time where the Iranian American community is deeply activated by the ongoing protests in Iran, they currently do not have a single representative in the legislature. Similarly, the movement for the liberation of oppressed people in Iran is intersectional to the assault on women's and LGBTQ+ rights right here at home. Right now is the time to elect a diverse, new generation of leaders who can serve as true champions for marginalized communities and who can build people power across segments of the community. If elected, Alex will caucus with the AAPI caucus in the California legislature,
Alex Mohajer is running on a platform that includes women's, reproductive, and LGBTQ+ rights, economic dignity for working-class families (which includes public school education and investments in pay equity), universal health care and mental health care access, drug/alcohol rehabilitation, and bold action on climate change. He will always be an advocate for marginalized communities and fight for the human rights of all Californians.
