Alexa was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in East New York, Brooklyn and lived over two decades in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. She is a lifelong organizer, mother of two. Alexa has had a long and distinguished career in social justice, managing grants to keep youth out of the juvenile justice system, support environment and racial justice campaigns, demand governmental transparency and accountability and revitalize native cultures and languages. In addition to serving on many local and national nonprofit boards, for nearly a decade, Alexa also served as PTA President, partnering with parents, staff and students to improve academic and recreational programs.
  • People over Profit: Our government should be working with the singular focus on ensuring its people, not the ultra wealthy and corporations, have everything they need to lead healthy and full lives. With the ever increasing costs of goods and services, it's harder for people to get by. We must, as a government, fully invest in healthcare, quality education, housing and creating opportunities for our communities to thrive.
  • Quality Education for all: The quality of education should not be dependent on family wealth, language spoken at home or where you live. The best investment is ensuring our community’s educational institutions receive the full support to ensure all students succeed.
  • Safe, Affordable Housing for all: NYC, like many other cities across the country, is in the midst of a housing crisis. We must change the policies that undermine social housing and invest in it to ensure people are safely housed.
Alexa fights for a government that works for all and includes well-resourced schools; dignified, affordable housing; equity and justice for our most vulnerable and immigrant neighbors; and addressing the climate crisis through a justice framework.
