I am a Nashville native who remembers a time when Nashville was for Nashvillians butt also understands the tourism is our industry. District 16 sits in a very opportunistic position. With development creeping our way, we need a leader who will engage with the community to help steer that change in a direction that works best for us. Its time we get back to neighborhoods.
I am most passionate about public transit and affordable housing. Both are a requirement in a booming city.
I look up to my mom. She and a small group of friends took on revitalizing an entire Nashville neighborhood in 1978. She worked tirelessly to save the historic homes and change the zoning codes so I could become a hip neighborhood full of restaurants, stores and new homes. Everyone thought she was crazy in the1980's for taking on such a big project in a long forgotten part of Nashville. Today, Germantown is a thriving destination neighborhood that has surpassed her original vision but one that would not be here today if it hadn't been for her bravery. I keep this history close to my heart when it comes to my current district. I want to see it become a destination neighborhood, full of diversity, families and ethnic foods. I want to see it thrive and become a place people seek out to live in.
I am honest, independent, composed, hardworking and not afraid to ask the tough questions. I am also a reasonable and rational person who understand that you get more done by working with people rather than fighting against them. I understand that what you do matters more than who you are.
To be a voice for the district. Too often I see elected officials voting for themselves when they are there to represent the people. It is important to hold informational and Q&A sessions throughout the year to keep constituents up to speed on what is happening in council - being clear and honest about all possible outcomes. It is important to listen to what they have to say and learn what they want and how they would like for you to vote on big ticket items.
I would love to be a part of the council that creates a better Nashville for Nashvillians. I would love to leave office having developed better transit, better infrastructure and housing that is actually affordable.
Ella Baila Sola by Eslabon Armado. I am a world music nut and used to be a DJ on WRVU (RIP) for a number of years. I loved sharing world music with Nashville on my show Global Rhythms.
Something that has been a struggle in my life is finding a way to make a difference. Being a Nashville native and remembering the small town we used to be, Ive always wanted to have a hand in making our now big city even greater. After struggling with the growing pains of any newly booming city, I decided the best way for me to make a difference would be through Metro Council.
