I have been Chair of my local Democratic County Party since 2019, and in that capacity I’ve worked to increase diversity among our membership, strengthen outreach to rural communities, and continue to grow a network of 22 grassroots neighborhood action teams. During my term, Dane County turned out over 42,000 more votes for Biden/Harris than we did for Clinton/Kaine. I’m a proud UW Badger, with a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology and Management. Most recently, I worked in the tech industry as a project manager, and prior to that I worked for a statewide environmental nonprofit and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. I have served on the board of the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health since 2019, and formerly served as the PTO President of a Madison Public School and a board member of a nonprofit childcare facility. I live in Madison with my husband, daughter, and rescue dog.
  • I will bring a fresh perspective and new energy to this office. I’ll elevate the importance of the Secretary of State by using it as a loudspeaker for democracy to educate voters and push back on attempts to undermine our elections or infringe on voters’ rights.
  • As a local County Party Chair, I’ve worked to increase civic engagement through outreach by educating people about how our electoral processes, government, and political parties work. I will continue doing this critical work as Secretary of State because understanding is key to building trust, and lack of trust is at the heart of what’s eroding our democracy.
  • I’m running for fairness and transparency for all the people of Wisconsin, so I oppose partisan oversight of our elections. It would be a dangerous concentration of power to have elections certified by a single person, as the Republicans are seeking. Instead, we should bring back the Government Accountability Board, which was a national model for nonpartisan election oversight.
Since elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, I am particularly passionate about policies that improve access to the ballot and make it easier for citizens to vote. Early voting opportunities, such as in-person absentee voting and ballot drop boxes, and no-excuse absentee voting make the voting process more convenient for people, which increases turnout and results in a more diverse electorate. Online and same-day voter registration also help remove barriers to participation in our elections.

I am a fierce defender of human rights and support a plethora of policies that ensure equity and equality for women, people of color, LGBTQIA folks, immigrants, and members of many other communities.
