I'm Alexis, a mom and former educator dedicated to creating a better world for ALL children. I am a licensed therapist and school counselor who worked in education for almost a decade before moving into private practice. I volunteer with Girl Scouts as a troop leader and service unit events manager and I am also a state chapter lead for Little Lobbyists. I am an advocate and activist who uses her voice to speak up for others who do not have the resources to or feel safe enough to speak out themselves. I am dedicated to working across party lines to ensure better access to a quality education for every child in Union County.
  • Increased pay and benefits for all school district employees is needed to meet the increased cost of living in our county as well as reward the hard work and dedication of the employees who make our school system #1 in the state. There are teachers with master's degrees being paid on a bachelor's degree salary schedule, transportation workers who haven't seen a raise in almost a decade and teacher's assistants who are making less than a fast food restaurant employee. Our school staff are dedicated to helping our children receive a quality education in a safe and nurturing environment but are not given the respect of a living wage or an environment where they feel safe to express concerns.
  • School safety is a top concern of mine. There are schools in our county without a dedicated resource officer even though North Carolina has the highest incidence rate of gun violence on school properties in a single state in 2025 thus far. I am dedicated to ensuring that our county steps up its school safety measures, both preventative and responsive, so that we work to stop violence before it happens and are able to respond to safety threats with minimal harm caused to our school communities.
  • Health, both physical and mental, is an area I believe our district needs to prioritize for both students and staff. Our district's new policy surrounding charging meals in the cafeteria is detrimental to both the physical and mental health of our students. Schools are struggling to meet the mental health needs of students due to increased school counselor to student ratios and the high turnover rate of mental health therapists provided by the county. Staff are also struggling with their own mental and physical health due to increased demands, low pay, and lack of support from the district. My hope is to work with the district on strategic initiatives to address all of these concerns to ensure the health of all students and staff.
My advocacy work centers around education practice and policy, healthcare reform and civil rights for all.
My greatest inspiration is my daughter Kinsley. Even though she is only 6 years old, her unbridled joy and zest for life despite the hand she has been dealt has shown me what true strength is.
To listen to the people they were elected to represent, even if they do not necessarily agree with your point of view. Far too often we see politicians elected to office and then become unreachable when a constituent wants to express concerns. I promise to listen to anyone who wants to present concerns to me, not just those I agree with or align with politically.
One of my life mottos is "Be the Leslie Knope of whatever you do." I want people to remember me as someone who worked to make the world a better place for everyone, even when it wasn't easy.
9/11 - I was in 4th grade. I vividly remember sitting in class and watching the second tower get hit on TV. I lived in NY and my father was a NYPD detective so I spent most of the day waiting to hear that he was okay.
I was a hostess at a diner for 2 years before leaving to begin waitressing at another diner.
Breaking generational cycles with my children and my advocacy work with Little Lobbyists.
