A San Antonio native, my foundation was shaped by the loss of my sister to gun violence at age 14 and the strength of incredible mother figures. I served 12 years in the military as a Military Police Officer. The United States Air Force allowed me to become the first in my family to graduate college, completing my B.A. from UT in 2 years, followed by Baylor Law, all while still serving. After my final 2019 deployment, I hung up my uniform and moved to Hays County where I have been practicing law as a defense and civil rights attorney.
  • First, I want to rebuild trust between our community and local law enforcement. Nationwide, state level, and here at home, actions have eroded the working relationship between community members and law enforcement. That relationship can be repaired if there is a trusted middle ground where both sides feel heard and respected. Once it is no longer “them versus us,” we move closer to a safer community. Second, I want to strengthen our intake division. It is the focal point between law enforcement, victims, alleged defendants, and the District Attorney’s Office. Cases have been filed that should have never left the intake office, only to be dismissed later. Other cases have lingered far longer than they should have, delaying justice for all.
  • I have several values that guide my approach to public service. First and foremost, I come from a family of hard-working people. They have been in Texas since people first decided to call this land home. They worked in the fields and held hard-labor, blue-collar jobs. My grandmother worked four jobs to support her children, and my mother worked two jobs to support us. We never quit and we make no excuses; we make do with what we have. The United States Air Force also gave me values that guide my approach to public service: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. In a nutshell, my approach to public service is that everyone must work hard, work as a team, and help those who need help.
  • I want to address real problems that the law has only been used as a Band-Aid for. We place unhoused individuals in jail because they have nowhere else to go or because we have no other options for them. We have individuals with mental health issues wasting away in our jails because we don’t have the resources or infrastructure to help them. These are not necessarily problems for the District Attorney to solve alone, but the District Attorney should identify the people who can help and bring ideas and solutions to the community. I would reach out to community leaders for their input and try as many ideas as it takes to arrive at real solutions.
Equality and the rule of law: The rule of law must apply to everyone equally. Safety is achieved by helping those who are willing to accept help. However, we must also remove danger from our community. Social programs: If a program is not working, I am not afraid to move on to the next option. I believe the only real failure is holding on to something you know isn’t working. Criminal justice reform: “Tough on crime” and “soft on crime” are political phrases, not solutions. Crime is a symptom of a bigger issue. Some people make conscious decisions to endanger our society—those are the few. Most cases could have been avoided. Guidance, assistance, education, and opportunity are all most people need to stay out of criminal court.
