Opposition

Two of the seven seats on the Red Clay Consolidated Board of Education were up for general election on May 12, 2014. District B incumbent Martin Wilson Sr. and District G incumbent Catherine Thompson's seats were up for election. Both incumbents won re-election.

Only Wilson faced an opponent on the ballot. Alfred Lance Jr. and C.H. Brokaw both filed to run against Wilson, but Brokaw withdrew on February 12, 2015.[2] The election for District G was canceled as incumbent Thompson was the only candidate to file for the race. She was automatically re-elected.

Campaign themes

2015

Lance provided the following statement on his campaign website:

I'm Alfred Lance and I'm running for Red Clay School Board (Nominating District "B"). Committing to building a strong public school system is essential to building a strong local and state economy and connecting our students, our future workforce, to the job market. It is also one of the best ways we as a community can improve the lives of students who are most in need and to change the trajectory of communities struggling with entrenched unemployment and poverty. The Red Clay School District is an amazing community of students, parents, and educators who together are accomplishing great things.

We see great success with some of the state's highest performers coming from our district, and schools that have been challenged in the past are turning around. While we must celebrate and build upon those successes, we also have to acknowledge that the system isn't working for everyone. We must work together to support families and educators to support the academic success of all of our students. The challenges before us are tough, but they are not insurmountable and I am ready to lend my knowledge, skills, and passion to the Red Clay School District so that together we can do what is best for students.[4]
