Algernon Lee Butler (1905-1978) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.[1]

Butler was nominated by President Dwight Eisenhower on July 28, 1959, to a seat vacated by Donnell Gilliam; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 28, 1959, and received his commission on August 31st. He served as chief judge from 1961 until assuming senior status on August 2, 1975. He served until his death on September 5, 1978.[1]
