My journey into public service began in Chicago when I enthusiastically joined the “Soldiers for Stroger,” supporting the campaign of the esteemed Cook County Board President, John Stroger. During my tenure at the Chicago Board of Education from 1999 to 2007 as a Parent Liaison championing educational equity. I served as a delegate for the teachers union, passionately advocating for the rights of educators and students alike. Upon arriving in Atlanta, I wasted no time diving into local politics by joining André Dickens's team, I attended many NPU meetings and addressed various issues, from infrastructure to social justice causes.
Over time, I rose to become Dickens's Chief of Staff, while he won his bid for Mayor of Atlanta, learning the true meaning of being "FOR THE PEOPLE." My time with the Atlanta City Council solidified my commitment to serving the people, inspiring me to run for Fulton County Commissioner in the 6th District. I bring with me the lessons learned from my experiences in Chicago and Atlanta and a deep understanding of the issues facing our community.- Commitment to Community: I've always been dedicated to serve and uplifting the community, I may not be the first one at an event but I am usually the last one there. I've worked in grassroots involvement and advocacy, creating partnerships within our community to address our most pressing issues head-on.
- Education Empowerment: I believe in the power of education. From my own experiences, I know that education can uplift individuals and entire communities. Ensuring access to quality education for all is a cornerstone of my mission and ensuring the educators have the necessary support to do their job without the dad-to-day challenges they may face.
- Proven Experience and Leadership: With years of experience in public service, from grassroots campaigns to serving as Chief of Staff, I bring leadership and a track record of getting things done. I understand the challenges our community faces, and I'm ready to lead Fulton County Forward.
Affordable housing: I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to safe, affordable housing options. I want to implement policies and initiatives that increase affordable housing stock, protect tenants' rights, and address homelessness in our community.
Vision: Leaders should have courage to make decisions that will impact the community by motivating and inspiring them to see the vision.
Empathy: Understanding the needs and concerns of individuals will influence making conscious choices that will serve for the best interest of the community.
Diversity and Inclusivity: Elected officials should embrace diversity and promote inclusivity, respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals regardless of their background, beliefs, or identity. They should work to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and represented.
I have demonstrated strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire others, build consensus, and work collaboratively toward common goals. Whether serving as Chief of Staff or engaging with diverse stakeholders, I have shown a commitment to fostering cooperation and achieving positive outcomes through teamwork.
While the journey has not always been easy, facing and overcoming adversity has shaped me into the resilient and tenacious individual I am today. It has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and compassion for others facing similar challenges, driving my commitment to serving and advocating for those in need within my community. I have worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles, pursue my goals, and create a better future for myself and my family.
