After nominee Toby Forsberg withdrew from the race in July, the local Democratic precinct committee selected Norris to replace him.[1] She was defeated by incumbent Republican Bill Kennemer in the November 2 general election.[2]

Campaign themes

Norris' campaign website lists three main issues:

  • Oregon's Economy: "As Mayor of Oregon City, Alice Norris helped bring 14 new businesses to Main Street alone. To foster economic growth, she will work to increase access to low interest loans for small businesses that increase hiring and payroll. And Alice will work to cut red tape so more entrepreneurs can start new businesses. She’ll support streamlining regulations for Oregon businesses and more job training programs and placement assistance for people looking for work."
  • Education: "As a former teacher, Alice Norris knows how important the right foundation is for our kids. She will support legislation to make sure students are “next-step” ready. And Alice will be a champion for community colleges, vocational schools and technical programs to train Oregon students to compete in global markets. And Norris will work to clamp down on tuition increases that are pricing too many Oregon families out of a college education."
  • Accountability: "Taxpayers deserve transparency. Alice Norris will support more audits of state agencies and contractors to reduce waste inefficiency. And she will back initiatives to crack down on fraud, favoritism, and cost overruns. That way, Oregon will have the resources we need to fund vital services like health care, education, and law enforcement."
  • Fighting Violent Crime: "As a mother of 3 children and 5 grandchildren, Alice knows how important it is to keep our families safe. She will support laws to target internet predators and increase sentences for sex offenders. And she will push for tough new efforts to curb identity theft and work to keep youth correctional facilities open. As Mayor, she increased the size of the police force in Oregon City and helped reduce emergency response times."
  • Care for Seniors: "In tough times, government has to do more with less. That’s why Alice Norris will vote for programs like Project Independence that allow seniors to live independently and with dignity in their golden years. These vital programs protect seniors while creating jobs for in-home care workers."
