A Reno native, I graduated from Wooster High School then completed my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education through UNR. Following graduation I spent 17 years as a WCSD high school teacher and coach. While I cherished my time in education, I eventually transitioned to a role in scientific research. I also volunteer with two local organizations and am pursuing a master's degree in crisis and trauma counseling. I have been happily married to my husband, Dan, for 19 years. When not working or studying, I love to explore our beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains.
  • Many people I have spoken to in the community do not feel heard when they bring concerns to the school board. If I am elected, I will listen to the concerns and ideas of the people and ensure their voice is heard.
  • Over time, there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of our academic standards. The relentless push to boost graduation rates has inadvertently compromised the rigor of our educational curriculum. Consequently, a concerning number of students are now graduating without fundamental literacy or math skills. It's crucial that we redirect our focus towards prioritizing the development of fundamental skills that prepare students for success in higher education and the workforce.
  • Transparency is foundational to developing trust. There has been a lack of transparency which is something I would like to address. Nothing that is happening in the schools should be hidden from parents or the community. I am committed to fostering open communication and accountability.
As a proponent of academic excellence, I believe education must focus on foundational subjects such as math, literature, science, and history. These subjects not only provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them but also equip them with essential skills and knowledge necessary for success in any path they choose. They must also be challenged to think critically, analyze information, solve problems, and communicate effectively, preparing them to navigate the complexities of the modern world. To achieve these goals, it is essential to support educators with the resources and training necessary to deliver high-quality instruction.
Integrity, accountability, competence, and a commitment to public service are critical characteristics of an elected official. The people must trust that they will be honest, transparent, and conduct all actions and decisions in an ethical manner. They must be willing to take responsibility for their actions and address the concerns of their constituents. They must be able to make informed decisions based on evidence and sound reasoning. The welfare of constituents must take priority over any personal or partisan interests.
My favorite book is the Bible. It is an amazing source of wisdom, truth, and hope. I have read it many times yet each time I read it I learn something new. A few years ago there was a fire near my home and the two things I wanted to save were my dog and my Bible. This book is my most valuable possession.
I am passionate about expanding opportunities for students to receive technical training and engage in apprenticeships. Many excellent career paths do not require a college education but do require specialized training beyond the typical high school curriculum. Students would benefit from exploring diverse career opportunities and enrolling in courses that will prepare them for their chosen vocation.
When I was a teacher I used to tell my students a joke at the beginning of class. Most of the jokes were not very funny, they were stereotypical "dad" jokes. I don't know that I have a favorite but here is one I always remember:

What do you call cheese that doesn't belong to you?

Nacho cheese!
The funds entrusted to the government ultimately belong to the people. It is the government's responsibility to ensure accountability in spending these funds, with full transparency for every financial decision made.
