Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Valdes' campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Health Care For All: I believe that health care is a human right and all people are entitled to it in order to live a healthy and productive life. In the long run, having a healthier population will decrease overall health care costs, thereby saving money in unnecessary treatment for preventable diseases.
  • Immigration Reform With A Path To Citizenship: Since we are a land of immigrants, we need to work towards fair immigration reform so millions can achieve their American dream as many like me have done through hard work and perseverance.
  • Low Cost Public College: The United States has always been known for its excellent public school education available to all who live here. However, due to massive budget cuts in the educational system and the growth of for-profit charter schools and voucher programs, our children are not being provided with a quality education.
  • Address Climate Change and Acceleration to Renewable Energy: As Floridians, we cannot continue to ignore climate change and hope it will go away. The vast majority of climatologists agree that this is not only real but we, as humans and the carbon footprint we leave behind by burning fossil fuels, are the cause.
  • Living Wage of $15/hr: While we are having a robust recovery from the great recession, the middle and working classes are not feeling the effects. The majority of the improvement is being felt by the wealthiest, with the stock market reaching record highs as there continues to be a widening of the income gap.
