Education has always been important to me. My mother was a 2nd-grade teacher. Before becoming a parent, I trained teachers in Guatemalan refugee camps, led literacy programs in the Dominican Republic, worked with adults completing their High School diplomas, and helped develop a curriculum for adult English language learners in Utah. More recently, I worked as the Client Services Manager at the Bountiful Food Pantry where I served students and families throughout Davis County.
In my children's schools, I have served on the Community Council for Boulton Elementary, South Davis Jr High, and Woods Cross High School. I have also served with the PTA and as a classroom volunteer, which has helped me gain insight into the school district.- An excellent public education system is one of society's most important duties. When done well, it graduates citizens who become learners, parents, teachers, and great leaders.
Communities-
The economic stability of our community is dependent upon great schools. Property values are strengthened when districts provide well-equipped schools, including libraries, sports facilities, science labs, and technology resources. Good schools make a community more desirable. Communities benefit from schools that are diverse, integrated, and inclusive. As your school board member, I will always make policy decisions that are based on promoting successful and vibrant communities. - Students- Every child has the right to attend a school where they feel safe, welcomed, represented, understood, included, and encouraged to thrive. As your school board member, I will advocate for policies that create a safe and productive learning environment for every student. Family Engagement and Empowerment- Research shows, time and time again, that family engagement is the single most important factor in student success. It overcomes socioeconomic status, race, and ethnicity. As your school board member, I will encourage and empower family involvement in education, including training families on the tools that are already in place to help them be empowered to support their student’s education.
- Teachers- Teachers are our community members, our neighbors, and our friends. Teachers need to be respected as professionals and experts in their field. The school board should work to empower teachers to meet student's individual needs- while removing excess red tape and other obstacles to teaching. As your school board member, I will empower and respect teachers and I will not bully them in policy decisions or on social media
I will listen to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members. Together we can create strong schools and build a resilient community
It helped teach me responsibility and dependability.
I love the writting in this book and I've always taken comfort in the stories of everyday lives.
