For over 30 years, I have been helping people solve complex problems, as a social worker working with children and families and as an organizational effectiveness consultant, improving communication, conflict resolution and employee retention. I currently volunteer in community outreach to prevent gun violence, have advocated for improved school funding and started a reading program for struggling students for my daughters' elementary school.

Our next state senator for District 18 needs to have the skills to solve the many complex problems that are facing us. I have the skills to bring people together, think strategically and ensure the legislation that's passed works as it's intended.

I will commit to making sure the funds allocated to reduce homelessness provides temporary and permanent housing as quickly as possible, that we develop comprehensive strategies to reduce gun violence and reduce drug dependence, that schools improve their ability to prepare students for good paying jobs, that school personell get the support they need, that we have high quality and affordable childcare options, public preschool, resources for seniors and people with disabilities, improved health care access, protect women's reproductive rights, improve our foster care system and establish effective methods to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Keeping our kids and families safe and healthy
  • Affordability for children, families and people with disabilities
  • Improve child care and schools
We need a variety of policies that support children and families. This includes easily accessible rental assistance for families in financial crisis, providing high quality and affordable child care, public preschool, free after-school programs and more robust mental health/substance abuse services in the schools. We need to ensure our healthcare is more affordable and that those from marginalized communities have increased access. This can be accomplished with a reduction in the cost of prescription drugs and by exploring the feasibility of Health Care for All in Oregon. Keeping our community safe by taking strong actions to reduce gun violence, actively intervene to reduce opioid dependence and adequately funding child abuse prevention/intervention programs as well as finding safe housing for the homeless will keep our communities safe. We also need to explore all options to increase revenue so our programs have stable funding. This could include closing tax loopholes, ensuring the most wealthy pay their fare share and reducing pay inequities at publicly funded agencies. And finally, we need to be good stewards of the money we spend, ensuring our tax dollars are used as intended.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg. I admire her tenacity, her unrelenting advocacy of those that have been oppressed, her incredible professional achievements and her ability to successfully work despite her health conditions.
Good communication

Integrity
Honesty
Ability to develop productive working relationships with other legislators
Responding to constituents needs
Giving constituents a voice

Collaboration with the community
Ability to listen and understand people's needs, ability to problem solve, ability to develop collaborative relationships.
The first historical event I have strong memories of was the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther KIng. I was 8 years old. I often wonder if we would have the divisions we have today if Dr. King wouldn't have been assasinated.

My very first job was working in retail as a teenager. My first professional job was working with adolescents and their families as a psychiatric social worker.
For government to work at it's best the governor and state legislature need to have a collaborative working relationship with excellent communication between the state legislature and the governor.
1. Mitigating climate change by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and investments in green technologies

2. Housing- reducing barriers to affordable housing

3. Reducing homelessness

4. Ensuring all students get the education they need to be prepared for the curren/future job market

5. Providing Affordable and quality health care
In most instances I believe we can accomplish a lot more when we compromise, particularly around issues such as how much to increase or cut taxes and some regulations. There are some areas in which compromise would be difficult such as efforts occurring in some state legislatures to compromise a woman's reproductive rights.
