I am a member of the Newton City Council, Chair of Public Facilities and a member of the Zoning and Planning Committee working on zoning reform. This is a huge opportunity to provide more affordable and more diverse housing opportunities as well as promote more sustainable community development patterns. This includes incentivizing more energy-efficient building design, more walkable neighborhoods, protected bike lanes, removing parking minimums, reducing the heat island effect and stormwater improvements. I was the lead sponsor and advocate of an ordinance that phased out single-use plastic bags in Newton. We became the 7th community to pass a plastic bag ban. Now some 139 communities have passed bans on plastic bags. This is a first step to phasing out all single-use plastics.

  • Improving accountability and transparency on Beacon Hill
I believe it is critical that we act boldly on climate to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I support the wholesale transition of our fossil fuel economy to an economy that thrives on clean, renewable energy.

I believe that all our residents have a right to good quality housing, good quality, affordable healthcare, clean air and water and access to parks and open space.
I believe that all residents have a right to due process under the law and a fair, just and impartial legal system. I support economic and environmental justice by prioritizing the needs of those most impacted by past discrimination and environmental pollution.

I believe in an open and transparent government and a robust public process.
