Floyd narrowly defeated John H. Lawson in the Democratic primary on March 6, winning 50.77 percent of the vote. She was re-elected after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

Controversial decision
In March 2010, Floyd provoked criticism when she ordered that three teenage victims of sexual assault take a polygraph test. In response, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason filed briefs asking Judge Floyd to stop making such requests.[6]
