Allen Buansi is a former Chapel Hill Town Council member. He has been a civil rights lawyer for much of his legal career. He is currently an assistant city attorney. He grew up in Chapel Hill and is a husband and a proud father of three. His leadership has been widely recognized as he was named one of Chapel Hill Magazine’s Top Influencers of 2018. Governor Roy Cooper appointed him to the Local Government Retirement System Board of Trustees, and he served on this Board from 2018 to 2021. He has also served on the State Advisory Board of Common Cause. While on the Town Council, he worked with his colleagues to pass innovative, equity-centered policies, such as the first municipal Criminal Justice Debt Program, the Resolution on Reimagining Community Safety, COVID relief and assistance for some of the most vulnerable residents in our community. He is running to help people and to realize our vision of an affordable, accessible and inclusive state for everyone. Among his priorities are public education, the environment and affordable healthcare.
  • Experience: I have a proven track record of working with others to pass policies that help working people and some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
  • Civil Rights: I have fought for people to make sure they are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Working Parent: Families across North Carolina are struggling. As a parent of young children, I understand the struggles around childcare, early childhood education, public education and other challenges of being a working parent.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in North Carolina

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
