Allen was born in Clemmons in 1955, and resided at his mother's family homeplace in the center of Clemmons until 1968. Allen saw Clemmons Village Apartments and Clemmons Village Shopping Center built in the woods adjacent to the homeplace in the early '60's. When, in 1968, that shopping center was expanded to include the present-day Walmart Neighborhood Market, the homeplace was torn down and the family moved to what was then the northern edge of Clemmons, off Peacehaven Rd. Allen grew up in Clemmons Moravian Church. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 736. Allen played Little League Baseball in Clemmons. He attended school at Clemmons Elementary, Southwest Junior High; and West Forsyth. Allen was a 1973 Honor Graduate of West Forsyth, and attended East Carolina University on an academic scholarship. Allen graduated from East Carolina in December, 1978 with a double-major in math and computer science. In 1979, Allen started his career as a programmer in Greensboro. In 1987, he started his own software company, Allen Daniel and Associates; incorporating and hiring two employees in 1991. Allen Daniel and Associates, Inc. designed, developed, sold and supported accounting software for local governments. In 1993, Allen Daniel and Associates, Inc. was awarded the contract to provide accounting software and hardware for the Village of Clemmons. The village continued to use Allen's software and services until 2015. In 2004, Allen married Lisa Whitley, also a native of Clemmons. They lived in Ardmore until 2007, when they moved to Clemmons West to make room for their growing family. Allen and Lisa have two children, Carrie and Benjamin, who attend middle school. Since their children started school, Allen has been active helping Carrie sell Girl Scout cookies, volunteering at Clemmons Elementary School, helping with Cub Scouts, and helping coach various sports in which Benjamin has been involved.
  • Fiscal conservative. I believe strongly in our pay-as-you-go system that has served Clemmons well.
  • Very knowledgeable in local government accounting. I know how a budget is put together, how it works, and how to live within the budget.
  • I believe in growth within the Village of Clemmons, as long as that growth will have a positive impact on the village. I do not favor denser development in areas where traffic is already a problem, but I do favor encouraging businesses to locate in vacant space in existing retail and office space. I favor requiring developers to make required improvements to infrastructure to handle any increase in traffic that will be created by their development. I also believe Clemmons needs to maintain a certain amount of undeveloped green space.t
Reasonable growth, traffic flow, and quality of life.
The Clemmons Council is responsible for the fiscal management of Clemmons, and for controlling growth within the village limits. This is important because there are no other entities in the state that bear that responsibility.
Jesus Christ. If we could all live as He lived, and as He taught, the world would be a much better place.
Integrity, a servant's mindset, and the realization that elected officials are the servants of, not masters over, the people.
Integrity, deep understanding of governmental accounting, detail oriented, careful in research, ability to listen, ability to stand firm in the face of ideas not beneficial to my constituents.
I would like to leave the Village of Clemmons a better place than it was when I moved back.
Delivering a weekly newspaper. Three years.
The Bible. It has great lessons for maintaining an attitude of gratitude and service.
Taking on too much at one time, believing I can get it all done.
No, the powers of the office are limited and very well defined in public documents.
The role is primarily that of fiscal management. I think the absence of political experience may actually be beneficial.
I believe it is important for members of the Village Council to have a thorough understanding of local government accounting, as well as a basic knowledge of planning.
