Allen Dyer was a candidate for an at-large seat on the Howard County Board of Education in Maryland. He advanced from a primary election on June 24, 2014, to face seven other candidates for four seats in the general election on November 4, 2014. Allen Dyer lost the general election on November 4, 2014.

Dyer served one term on the board from 2008 to 2012. His fellow board members asked the Maryland State Board of Education for Dyer's removal and voted for his impeachment in 2011. Dyer was accused of bullying, misconduct and releasing confidential information. He served out the remainder of his term while appealing his removal. The state's Court of Special Appeals rejected Dyer's efforts to reverse the impeachment decision in June 2013.[1]

Campaign themes

2014

Dyer provided the following statement on his campaign website:

My priorities for improving our children's education:
  1. Additional resources need to be targeted at individual at-risk students. At-risk students need a place to study and a way to access teachers and computers beyond the standard school day. All of our young people must be prepared for a gainful life in our community.
  2. More skills training opportunities. Abstraction is fine but working with your hands and operating equipment safely makes our reality. Working with your hands requires the development of judgment about acceptable risk — judgment that provides a foundation for good citizenship.
  3. HCPSS must be accountable and transparent. No taxpayer should have any doubt that their taxes are being invested wisely in our future. In a representative government, public records and public meetings are a necessity — not a luxury.[5]
