Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Hardwick's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Let’s Heal Our Economy: Our federal government has been giving us numbers that is suppose to inspire confidence that our economy is improving. The numbers that they show us are those who have applied and/or are receiving unemployment benefits but do not count those who have exhausted those benefits. Many have now given up and stopped looking for work essentially dropping out of the workforce. To be truthful, they need to show a study of how many have went from unemployment benefits to welfare and count those people as a negative toward the overall health of our economy.
  • Immigration Issue: Recently I attended a meeting in Vassar to discuss a proposed illegal immigrant processing center. I also attended a protest about another center in Bay City. Many there were very opposed to this. The problem is that many residents are concerned that these boys could be members of the MS-13 gangs for one. Another concern is they could bring into the community other problems such as diseases or other illnesses that have been wiped out here in America. This has already been show in other centers across the US. There is also a security concern within the community as well. Just one day before the Vassar meeting, the current congressman for the 5th district Dan Kildee stated he didn’t believe there were plans for a immigration center within the district.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: One thing in life I’ve always been told is that we are responsible for our own action. Another thing was to be a good steward with regards to money and finance. What this means is several things. First of all, money is just a tool, It’s not to be sought after or worshiped. It’s only purpose is to serve as a transaction medium for the purchases that we make. Too many people today have such a desire to get as much money as they can that they put that desire ahead of their integrity, relationships and anything else. This can be especially problematic when it comes to politicians who instead of serving the people, do the bidding of those who pay them the most money.
  • Foreign Policy: As everyone is well aware of, we are and have been for some time fighting a war on terror. This is not an easy thing to do without collateral damage. In an ideal situation we would have government forces aiding us in removing this threat from the world but that’s not always the case. Even if our president won’t admit we are at war, that doesn’t change the fact that these terrorist goal is to take down this nation at any cost and that’s the problem.
  • Federal Vs. States: One of the main problems we have right now is overlapping government control. There are clear cut definitions between federal and state responsibilities. Our federal government is spending extreme amounts of money on programs that should be each states responsibility. Healthcare or the ACA is one good example and common core is another. This administration more than ever has a one shoe fits all mentality. They believe that they can make all laws and programs that work in every situation. In the process, they are walking over the rights of many to secure the rights of a few. States responsibilities are being diminished along with the rights of the people. They are doing this under the guise of fairness to all but in reality all it amounts to is control.
