Allen Joines
Allen Joines (Democratic Party) is the Mayor of Winston-Salem in North Carolina. He assumed office on December 3, 2001. His current term ends in 2028.
Joines (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for Mayor of Winston-Salem in North Carolina. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Biography
Joines earned a B.S. from Appalachian State University and an M.P.A. from the University of Georgia. His professional experience includes working as the president of The Winston-Salem Alliance and for the city of Winston-Salem as an assistant to the city manager, the director of evaluation, public safety coordinator, the director of development, and deputy city manager.[1]

Republican primary election
The Republican primary election was canceled. Kris McCann advanced from the Republican primary for Mayor of Winston-Salem.
2016
A general election for the mayor's office and all eight city council seats in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, took place on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on March 15, 2016, in the city council's Northeast, Northwest and South wards. A special primary election was held in the South Ward on June 7, 2016, after a recount revealed ballot errors discussed here. The 2016 election was the first even-year election for the city's mayor and city council following a 2011 state law moving municipal elections from odd years.[2][3][4] Incumbent Allen Joines ran unopposed in the Mayor of Winston-Salem general election.[5]

Joines was mayor of Winston-Salem during the weekend of May 29-31, 2020, when events and activity took place in cities across the U.S. following the death of George Floyd. Events in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, began on Saturday, May 30, 2020.[6] No curfews were issued. The national guard was not deployed.
