Allen Tijerina was a candidate for District 4 of the Laredo City Council in Texas. He advanced to the runoff election on December 17, 2016, but was defeated.[1]

Tijerina was elected to Place 4 of the Laredo Community College Board of Trustees in 2012. Tijerina defeated Edward Sherwood 62 percent to 38 percent to win the seat. At the time of his election, Tijerina was the youngest member in the board's history.[2][3]

Tijerina holds an associate degree in science from Laredo Community College and a B.S. in biology and M.S. in education from Texas A&M International University.[4]

As of his run for city council in 2016, Tijerina was a science teacher at Martin High School in the Laredo Independent School District.[3]

The city of Laredo, Texas, held elections for city council on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 22, 2016. Four of the seven city council seats were up for election. The District 4 race advanced to a runoff election on December 17, 2016.
