Noteworthy cases
Absence from domestic abuse sentencing
Danner was absent from a sentencing hearing held on April 13, 2017, in a domestic abuse case involving former Cuberon CEO Abhishek Gattani. Gattani pleaded no contest to felony assault charges after reaching an agreement with prosecutors on felony accessory and misdemeanor offensive touching charges.[4] Neha Rastogi, who filed for divorce from Gattani at the time of the hearing, presented a four-page impact statement to temporary judge Rodney Stafford during Danner's absence.[5] The statement criticized the court and the attorneys involved for showing leniency toward Gattani in allowing him to serve less than 30 days in prison with additional time served in a weekend labor program. Rastogi also cited a decade of abuse including a November 2013 incident that led to a misdemeanor charge against Gattani.[6]
Stafford delayed sentencing until May 18, 2017, so that Danner could consider the impact statement. Gattani's attorney provided no response to Rastogi's statement and Assistant District Attorney Steve Fein said that Gattani's immigration status was considered when reaching a plea deal with the defense.[7]
