Alum Rock Union School District bond proposition, Measure J (November 2012)
An Alum Rock Union Elementary School District bond proposition, Measure J ballot question was on the November 6, 2012, ballot for voters in the Alum Rock Union School District in Santa Clara County, where it was approved.[1]
Measure J authorizes the school district to borrow $125 million. The property tax cost for repayment will be about $30 a year for every $100,000 in assessed value.[2]
A 55 percent supermajority vote was needed for approval.

Support
The editorial board of the San Jose Mercury News supported Measure J, writing, "Voters in this district approved a $179 million bond measure in 2008, but the master plan includes about $500 million in work on 26 schools built almost entirely in the 1950s and '60s. The first bond built the wonderful San Antonio school, reconstructed exteriors of other schools, and upgraded bathrooms and heating and air-conditioning systems, among other projects. Measure J will pay for more modernization, new tech infrastructure, and improved energy efficiency to gain potentially millions in general fund savings."[2]

| Measure J: "To improve neighborhood schools by removing mold and asbestos; fixing leaky, deteriorated roofs; replacing inefficient/ aging heating, ventilation, and electrical systems to save money; improving fire safety/ security; updating computer technology/ science labs for 21st century learning; repairing aging restrooms; and acquiring, constructing, and repairing sites/ facilities, shall Alum Rock Union Elementary School District issue $125 million in bonds at legal rates with required independent financial audits, citizens' oversight and no money for administrators' salaries?"[3] |
