Sanders' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

“ As your next State Representative, my top priority will be economic development and the cultivation of entrepreneurship. Areas of focus:
  • Microloan Program; Small Business Administration. After attending the White House Briefing for Community Leaders, a meeting visited by President Barack Obama, I was excited to learn of the Microloan Program sponsored by the Small Business Administration. The Microloan Program provides loans to small businesses through eligible nonprofit, or community or faith-based lenders.
  • The program fosters a way to build partnerships among business entities with a common goal: a high quality of life full of opportunity. The basic American credo… life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Presently there is NOT an SBA-approved intermediary lender in District 55; only one in the metro-Atlanta area (East Atlanta); only five in the state of Georgia - -stretching across the state. There are plenty of small businesses in District 55 who could use additional capital, and plenty of wonderful ideas just waiting to come to life!
  • Develop a Youth Entrepreneurship Program to prepare the next generation of small business owners.
  • Create a District 55 Entrepreneurs Advisory Council as a resource for ideas and guidance on how the state can assist small businesses.[2]

Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Tyrone Brooks was unopposed in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[3][4][5]
