Alvin Holmes (Democratic Party) was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 78. Holmes assumed office in 1974. Holmes left office in 2018.

Holmes (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Alabama House of Representatives to represent District 78. Holmes lost in the Democratic primary runoff on July 17, 2018.

Holmes passed away on November 21, 2020.[1]

Biography

At the time of his service in the state House, Holmes' professional experience included working as a college professor and real estate broker. He had been a member of the state Democratic Executive Committee.

Elections for the Alabama House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Incumbent Alvin Holmes was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Tijuana Adetunji was unopposed in the Republican primary. Holmes then defeated Adetunji in the general election.[2][3][4][5][6]

On November 7, 2006, Holmes was re-elected to the 78th District Seat in the Alabama House of Representatives, running unopposed in the general election.[8]

He was a member of the Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Montgomery Improvement Association, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Alabama Southern Christian Leadership Conference Board, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.[10]
