Alvin Thornton was an at-large member of the Prince George's County Public Schools Board of Education. He was appointed Chair of the Board of Education in December 2018.[1] His term ended on December 31, 2022.

Thornton was also a 2016 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 4th Congressional District of Maryland. He withdrew prior to the primary.[2]
