I'm a veteran with 22 years of experience in command leadership, planning, communication, and logistics. As a professional leader, proud mother, and seasoned planner, I bring a wealth of relevant experience and a unique perspective to the table.
  • I thrive on facilitating civil conversation about difficult topics. I love listening to different perspectives and will fight to make sure Page's citizens are heard and informed. If elected, I will work with my fellow Counselors to offer new, unique, and creative ways to engage our community, including people living in the towns and rural areas around Page. Our community includes thousands of people who work in Page, send their kids to school in Page, own businesses in Page, and come to Page to shop. They may have homes outside the city limits, but they are vested members of the community and deserve to have a say in its future.
  • We need innovative solutions and fresh perspective to address the issues facing our town. We can't have a thriving economy without putting the needs of our workforce first. Many qualified people move away or decline job offers in Page because of the lack of affordable housing and the lack of reliable childcare. If we address those problems first, our workforce, and our town, can thrive.
  • We need a commonsense approach to planning that prioritizes the needs of the people of Page over predatory developers. We need attractive, affordable, mixed income housing and a fresh look in the business district that honors the long heritage of our community with artistic, functional design. My professional experience as a planner and public facilitator makes me the ideal candidate for this job.
My interests are primarily in policy related to economic development, comprehensive community planning, and communication. I want to seek new job opportunities for our people in industrial, technology, and manufacturing sectors. I want to enhance the beauty of the town for residents and visitors alike to enjoy and protect our people from predatory development, and I want to invest in technology and community engagement to increase public participation in civic processes.
The City of Page sometimes feels like an island. Our Councilors need to know how to connect to resources at different levels of government including the county, state, and neighboring cities, states, and the Navajo Nation. With over 22 years of experience coordinating emergency response between different organizations and planning tourist experiences for destination communities, I am ideally suited to lead Page into its next era. By creating stronger relationships and leveraging connections with different agencies and partners, we can face the future with certainty and confidence.
I've always been a leader - someone who motivates others to work together for their common good. I'm an excellent public facilitator and communicator and I'm very good at helping people with different points of view find common ground to solve problems collaboratively. I'm highly efficient and able to quickly distill information to make the best decision for a given situation. Perhaps most importantly, I recognize my limitations and know that I don't have all the answers. I am happy to seek input from experts in diverse fields in order to make informed choices for the good of our community. And finally, I am not afraid to stand up for what is right and speak up to amplify the voices of the people I serve.
Being an elected official in a representative government means elected officials are accountable to the people they represent. Therefore, they must maintain open lines of communication and provide fully transparent information about their actions. if elected, I plan to make practical, concrete, affordable changes to City communications procedures that empower citizens to be fully informed and fully engaged in shaping the future of our community.
My very first job was as a lab assistant at Page Dental Center. I think I did that for four years. I held many jobs in town when I was young, often working more than one job at a time. I worked at Best Western, Aramark Boat Rentals, Stromboli's, Bonkers, Wilderness River Adventures, and Desert Sun Houseboat Services. I know first hand how hard people in this town work and how important our local businesses are to the health of our community.
The City of Page currently publishes its budget online and budget meetings are held publicly. However, finding detailed information about budget decisions or the data that supports those decisions is very difficult using the City's current website and other tools. With the communication initiatives I have in mind, the public will have better access to information regarding the City’s budget and expenditures, and therefore, greater transparency. I will ensure that our Council is responsible to the people it represents and sets its priorities according to the will of the people. We must remember that city money is ultimately the citizen’s money and we need to spend it to benefit them. That means we need to prioritize necessary infrastructure upgrades and repairs, and a swimming pool for the health and safety of our people.
