Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Hinson's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Pro-Life: Our communities need tools to ensure that those who are facing an unexpected pregnancy get the support they need. I believe the federal government's role in this is to keep open pathways and form initiatives and tax breaks for private entities or families to help moms, dads and babies so that pregnancy is no longer about fear-based choices but a cause for celebration with local community support.
  • Second Amendment: I think we can do better in preserving our own right to defend ourselves, to buy and own guns, and equip our people to be ready to use those guns properly. We must stop making fruitless regulations on guns whenever there is a mass shooting. Instead, the federal government should foster encouragement for schools to have gun safety training and address the real threats here honestly.
  • Small Business: As your representative to Washington, I will work to:Repeal the Obamacare mandate so that businesses can get back to offering affordable insurance plans that help employees feel they earned a benefit and where the company benefits from helping keep employees healthy....Stop the Environmental Protection Agency from over-regulating our electric companies, manufacturers and farms. Get rid of the Estate Tax so we can keep our profits inside our own community and encourage our children to take on the family business.Favor federal tax breaks for startup businesses and employees who are hired from within the United States.Encourage better Trade relations which puts the interests of Americans and our free market principles at the forefront.
  • Education: I am opposed to the crony capitalism found in our federally-funded school system today. I oppose the so-called "Common Core Aligned" curriculum, which is being marketed and sold to our schools even though Minnesota hasn't adopted the Common Core standards except in ELL. I want to ensure that the standards for our children are established on high standards with local input, not dictated by Washington.
  • Religious Freedom: When it comes to religious freedoms, I will be a strong voice in Congress to preserve our rights outlined in the Constitution. I will work hard to ensure that our government does not endorse or establish a religion, nor prohibit our freedom to practice our religion and follow our consciences of faith.
