  • Strengthening public education
  • Ensuring the health and well-being of community members
  • Building economic resiliency
I am passionate about the ways in which the government-local, state, and federal-affects the daily lives of people. Through smart policy and the wise allocation of dollars, we can better educate our children, build robust economies, ensure that everyone has access to the care and support they need to remain healthy-both physically and mentally-and so much more. The government has the ability to support thriving communities. With that in mind, I am passionate about all policies that create good outcomes.
Elected officials must possess an interest in and commitment to learning and humility in their own knowledge. No elected official understands every issue that they will encounter, so being grounded in humility and a commitment to learning will help them hear their constituents and be open to new ideas and solutions to problems.

Elected officials must also have compassion and respect for their community members. Each person carries with them their own deep and rich history and a well of personal experience. It is essential for elected officials to realize the ways in which their experiences differ from others, and have a willingness and ability to put themselves in the shoes of constituents with very different backgrounds. It is crucial to have compassion and respect for constituents at any level of elected office.
I would like to leave a legacy of tangible improvements in people's lives, both in my district and at the state level. If at some point in the future, Hoosiers can point to some bright spot in our education system or our economy or our environment, I would be honored to have had the opportunity to contribute to that.
My first job was working at my local movie theater, Linway Cinema, and I worked there for about a year. While there, I worked in both the concession stand and the box office. It was a great first job, and I learned a lot about working in teams and customer service. It also came with a great perk of free movies and popcorn, which was very valuable to a teenager.
I would like to be Hermione Granger. Her intelligence, commitment to friends, and strong problem-solving skills are all things I would be proud to have, with the added bonus of getting to be magical.

As with choosing any other person or character to be, there are always some flaws or things you might like to amend. First, I'd love to be Hermione, but as a Ravenclaw. Clearly, this would be as strong a match for her house as Gryffindor. Second, I would like to be Hermione without marrying any of the core friend members at the end of the books. Her story really didn't call out for that particular ending.
Previous experience in government or politics is valuable for a state legislator to possess-even if only in terms of the learning curve for an elected position-but it isn't necessary. Every government official or person in politics has to start somewhere. The key characteristics for a successful state legislator are a willingness and ability to learn and a commitment to constituents. If those characteristics are in place, then a legislator has the right building blocks to succeed in their role.
Building relationships with other legislators is absolutely essential to building a well-functioning legislature. Just as in a business or any other organization, relationships are key. It is very important that these relationships also cross party boundaries and individual policy positions. When people understand and respect one another, they are able to more effectively work together and create better solutions to the problems that we are facing.
First and foremost, I would hope to become a member of the Education Committee. Following that, the Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee; the Public Health Committee; and the Local Government Committee are all committees that I would like to be involved in.
