Castellano's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Education:

  • With 5 children attending Public and Universities here in NM, I have a vested interest in moving our Educational System to higher standards. As New Mexico struggles to climb out from the bottom of national rankings, I want to support our teachers who are on the front lines of teaching our children. We need to eliminate administrative waste, and invest in pay increases for our teachers. We must invest in our classrooms, by bringing them into the 21st century with all Technologies available, to aid our students in learning in today’s environment.

Jobs:

  • New Mexico should support our small businesses by giving incentives to new small business start-ups, and streamlining our laws and regulations. Jobs will also be created by supporting Industries important to our economy, like the FILM INDUSTRY.

Healthcare:

  • I will be a strong advocate for lowering healthcare costs to all New Mexicans, while holding big insurance companies accountable for unnecessary cost increases. I believe Insurance Companies should focus on lowering their own Administrative costs and eliminating waste to help the everyday average citizen’s premiums stay low. I will also be a strong advocate for our Seniors and Veterans who struggle with healthcare issues.

Senior Citizens:

  • We must protect our Senior Citizens services and centers, by funding needed improvements, programs, and adding rural accessibility.

Veterans & the Disabled:

  • With many people in my family being Veterans, I will ensure we honor our men and women who served our country, by ensuring they have the programs & resources needed for physical / mental healthcare they may need. I will promote financial assistance for Veterans struggling to find jobs and housing.
  • I believe we must take care of the disabled men, women and children of New Mexico, and promise to ensure all programs have appropriate funding to do so.[6]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New Mexico

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
