Janus' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
“ | Protect the Quality of our Public Education
Since the 1830’s, Wisconsin has offered its citizens an exceptionally high level of public education Inspired by our Founding Fathers’ conviction that a democracy can only survive with a well-educated citizenry, our state’s early settlers established public schools that were the centers of the communities they served. Although public schools are still the heart of our communities, today many politicians are playing politics with our school’s budgets and curriculums. It’s time to end the political games that are dividing our communities and undermining the quality of education they offer. As YOUR representative, one of my top priorities will be to invest in our schools and in the future of our children. Fight for Living Wage Jobs When wages for minimum wage workers increase, everyone in the economy enjoys a higher level of prosperity. This isn’t just another economic theory. Raising the minimum wage has always proven to be the surest way to stimulate the economy because it allows more people to spend more money to buy more goods. In addition, higher wages allow people to support local service providers like restaurants, entertainment centers and those offering professional services from hairdressers to financial planners. It’s time to put an end to the politics of greed that take from the poor to give to the rich. As YOUR representative, one of my top priorities will be to protect people in our communities from greed and corruption and empower them by assuring that they can earn a living wage. Ensure Survival of our Infrastructure' The resources that allowed our nation to grow and prosper in the past – major highways, local roads, bridges, train lines, airports, reservoirs, water pipes, sewers, and utility lines – are beginning to erode and crumble from time and wear. Our public parks, schools, hospitals, community centers, fire and police stations are also facing shortages of trained personnel and supplies. All of these resources depend on public support and funding. Moreover, without them our community, our state and our country cannot function efficiently now or in the future. As YOUR representative, one of my top priorities will be to provide our communities with the resources and funding needed to repair, rebuild and reinforce the infrastructure of our communities at every level.[2] |
