The America First Policy Institute is a conservative 501(c)(3) nonprofit think tank founded in 2021.

Mission

As of September 2024, the website for the America First Policy Institute listed the following mission statement for the organization:[2]

[America First Policy Institute] exists to advance policies that put the American people first. Our guiding principles are liberty, free enterprise, national greatness, American military superiority, foreign-policy engagement in the American interest, and the primacy of American workers, families, and communities in all we do.[3]

Agenda

The agenda of the America First Policy Institute includes ten pillars. The pillars are:

Background

In 2021, Brooke Rollins and Larry Kudlow founded America First Policy Institute. Previously, Rollins was the head of former President Donald Trump's Domestic Policy Council and an assistant to the president in the Office of American Innovation.[4] Kudlow was the director of the National Economic Council during a portion of Trump's presidency.

Work

As a 501(c)(3) research organization, the America First Policy Institute seeks to develop and advance policy. In addition to research, the America First Policy Institute also files lawsuits and fundraises to promote policy.[1][5]

Tax status

The America First Policy Institute is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Its 501(c) designation refers to a section of the U.S. federal income tax code concerning charitable, religious, and educational organizations.[7] Section 501(c) of the U.S. tax code has 29 sections that list specific conditions particular organizations must meet in order to be considered tax-exempt under the section. Organizations that have been granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service are exempt from federal income tax.[8] This exemption requires that any political activity by the charitable organization be nonpartisan in nature.[9]
