America Votes is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization located in Washington, D.C. The group calls itself a "coordination hub" for progressive organizations at the state and national level.[1]
Background
According the America Votes website, the organization's goal is to center "on fostering a culture of strong civic participation, increasing voter engagement and mobilization, and advocating for fair, modern elections.[2]
Founded in 2003, America Votes (AV) acts as a "central coordination hub" for over 400 state and national organizations. The group's founders included Steve Rosenthal, president of Partnership for America's Families; Elen Malcolm, EMILY's List founder; Harold Ickes, Bill Clinton's former White House deputy chief of staff; Andy Stern, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) president; and Carl Pope, executive director of the Sierra Club. CBS News reported in 2003 that their aim was to bring together, under the America Votes name, labor unions, issue advocacy groups, grassroots organizations and media firms with the aim of electing more Democrats to public office.[3]

According to its website, America Votes focuses on organizing through in-person canvassing, direct mail, phone calls and texts to "provide the information voters need to feel confident and informed about the voting process in person or via mail."[2] It also advocates for efforts to "protect and expand voting rights, and work with state and local officials to improve election administration."[2]

State operations
